Happily, Ever After

I remember my wedding day like it was yesterday, and I also remember everything I wanted it to be that it was not but every memory is accompanied with a smile. A smile that all married couples should wear as they journey towards their happily ever after. Sadly, happy marriages are increasingly becoming rare as more marriages continue to fail.

Marriage as an institution is under threat as the number of failing marriages globally are on a rise accompanied by a decline in the number of people getting married. When God brought man and woman together, he did not intend it to be a union of torment, pain, mistrust, nor for couples to build a home of darkness with no laughter. In the book of Colossians, we are reminded of the love that binds all things in perfect unity. I pray into all troubled marriages that you will find love once again to bind you together in perfect unity.

“ over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

@Colossians-3:14

The word of God makes references to marriage in comparison to the love God has for us. We also have several stories in the bible of couples who weathered the storm against all odds because the Lord joined them together. A union is Christ is not immune from troubles and unfortunately, not everyone survives the muddy waters. For couples who are working to restore their marriage, give them patience and grace to be tolerant and accepting of each other’s flaws.

“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

@Ephesians-4:2-3

We need to stand together and pray for the institution of marriage as God ordained it to be. Busy lifestyles, increasing use of technology, financial pressures and demands from children can be draining on marriages today as couples spend less time together. I pray that married couples will not lose themselves and each other. Father help couples to be intentional in their choices and not just drift away with life. I pray for all troubled marriages that you will restore their union, I pray for those who no longer recognise the person they married that you will work with them to find common ground once again and for those feeling trapped that they may not lose hope in your words of comfort. Send them a friend to encourage them in prayer.

I pray for the restoration of love, patience and understanding.

Let us pray together for those who are hurting from failed marriages that they will not grow weary as they wait on the Lord to bring back laughter into their lives and their home.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins."
